Privacy policy
Last updated: 4 September 2026. This page explains, without jargon, what the Do you Prefer app does with your data.
1. Who is responsible
The data controller is Théo Blanchet, publisher of the Do you Prefer app, who can be reached at contact@doyouprefer.app. For any question about your data, write to this address.
2. What we collect, and why

| Country of registration, date of birth, gender | Apply the voting conditions of polls (for example "France, 18 and over"). What we don't do
- No advertising, no ad trackers, no selling of data.
- No analysis of your behaviour for commercial purposes.
- No access to your contacts, your location or your photos, except the ones you choose yourself (profile, poll, comment); the camera is only used when you decide to take a photo.
3. Votes and opinions
Some polls deal with sensitive topics, such as politics or beliefs. That is why the app was designed this way: the database knows that you took part in a poll, never what you answered. There is no table linking a person to an option. The "my choice" tick you see in the app is stored only on your phone.
What you write yourself in a comment or a message is public or visible to your correspondent: think before sharing an opinion you would not want associated with your username.
4. Who sees what
- Public, for all members: username, photo, bio, your polls, your comments, whether or not you accept messages.
- You alone: email, country, date of birth, gender, your notifications, your blocks, your reports.
- Your correspondent: the private messages you exchange.
- The author of a poll sees the total number of votes, never who voted or what was chosen.
5. Where the data is hosted
The data is hosted by Supabase (Supabase Inc.), on servers located in the European Union (Ireland). Supabase acts as a processor and does not use the data for its own purposes. The app is distributed through Apple (App Store) and Google (Google Play), which process your purchase and installation data under their own policies. If you sign in with Apple or Google, the sign-in is handled by Apple or Google under its own policy. GIFs in comments come from GIPHY (Giphy, Inc., United States): the search is sent from your phone to GIPHY, which applies its own privacy policy.
6. For how long
- Your account data is kept for as long as your account exists.
- When you delete your account, your profile, photo, polls, comments, messages, notifications and reports are erased immediately and permanently. Vote totals remain, since they are linked to nobody.
- The hosting provider's technical logs are kept for at most 30 days.
- An account inactive for 3 years is deleted after a warning email.
7. Your rights
You can at any time access your data, correct it, erase it, request its portability, object to processing based on legitimate interest, or withdraw your consent. In practice:
- Change your username, bio, photo, whether you accept messages: directly in the app, on your profile.
- Delete your account: in the app, on your profile, "Delete my account" button. See also this page.
- Everything else (access, a copy of your data, objection): an email to contact@doyouprefer.app, reply within one month.
Country and date of birth cannot be changed in the app, because they determine the right to vote in polls. If you made a mistake when entering them, write to us.
If you believe your rights are not being respected, you can lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority: www.cnil.fr.
8. Minimum age
The app is for people aged 13 and over. Between 13 and 15, a parent's consent is required to create an account, in accordance with French law. If we learn that an account belongs to a child under 13, it is deleted.
9. Security
Exchanges with our servers are encrypted. Your password is never stored in plain text. Data access rules are enforced directly by the database: each member can read and change only what belongs to them, independently of the app.
10. This website
The doyouprefer.app website uses no cookies and no audience measurement tool.
11. Changes
If this policy changes significantly, you will be informed in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top of this page indicates the latest version.
